TrueDelta Reviews the Seat Room and Comfort of the 2013 Nissan Altima

2013 Nissan Altima Seat Room and Comfort: Pros
YearComment
2013 I'm already stuck. In just about every other way aside from fuel economy the Altima is a good, even very good car, yet an unremarkable one. Either this, or a strength must be qualified with a "but." The latter is the case with the front seats. Inspired by the "zero gravity" seats designed by NASA for ultra-long-distance travel, the Altima's buckets feel substantial and fit like a glove. BUT...also check the reasons not to buy an Altima. Move to the back seat, and Nissan's midsize sedan has a clearer advantage. The comfortably padded rear seat cushions in both the Altima and the Fushion provide good thigh support--those in many competitors do not. The Altima's rear seat isn't quite the roomiest, but it is roomier than the Fusion's. see full Nissan Altima review
2013 Nissan Altima Seat Room and Comfort: Cons
YearComment
The NASA-inspired driver's seat is very comfortable and supportive, BUT its headrest juts so far forward that I had to remove it and reinsert it turned around. This severely compromises safety, but otherwise the headrest presses very uncomfortably against the back of my head. For this reason I doubt I could own an Altima. The average person, with a less vertical neck, won't have this problem. Just be sure to pay attention to this during your test drive. see full Nissan Altima review

I bought this car because of the front seat leg room. I'm 6' 5" tall with a 36" inseam. This is the first car I've ever owned that I fit in perfectly. The cloth bucket seats are very comfortable. Every control is in easy reach even though I have the seat as far back as it can go. The tilt and telescoping steering wheel is great. This is the first mid size sedan since I've owned. It has more interior room than a 1999 Buick LeSabre I owned 10 years ago. see full Nissan Altima review

The seats are very comfortable, I would have been happy if both the driver and passenger were electronic. The lumbar support is fantastic and the driver seats is 8-way adjustable. For tall people this car will be a great ride. see full Nissan Altima review

TrueDelta Reviews the Powertrain of the 2013 Nissan Altima

2013 Nissan Altima Powertrain: Pros
YearComment
2013 Aided by the sedan's relatively low weight, the short initial ratio of the CVT, and the ability of this transmission to hold the engine right at its 6,000-rpm power peak, the Altima's 182-horsepower 2.5-liter engines feels quick for a non-turbo four-cylinder. Nissan claims that an independent testing company (sponsored by Nissan) got the car from zero to sixty mph in a V6-like 7.14 seconds. The Altima 2.5 didn't feel that quick to me, but add another second and it's still plenty quick for typical driving. BUT...again, also check the reasons not to buy. see full Nissan Altima review
2013 Nissan Altima Powertrain: Cons
YearComment
The Altima 2.5 might be quick, but the engine doesn't sound pleasant when revved to 6,000 rpm and held there. For quicker acceleration that's much easier on the ears, the 270-horsepower V6 remains the way to go. The CVT also has less of a "rubber band" feel and can be manually shifted to mimic a conventional automatic with the V6. see full Nissan Altima review

2014 4dr Sedan 182-horsepower 2.5L I4
CVT FWD
CVT is a love hate relationship for most. I grew up with 4/5 speed auto slushboxes from Acuras and Fords of the early 90's and most will say they want to feel the car shift to the next gear. Until I came to the Altima CVT. For a 2.5 cylinder engine, it provides enough oomph to get going, although I do miss the 6 cylinder engines of yesteryear. That rubberband feeling that everybody keeps talking about, don't experience it here. I enjoy the feeling of the car that keeps on accelerating smoothly without those abnoxious shifts. On steep hills the rpms stay under 2K. Torque this engine does not have, but as a commuter car with the amenities, fuel milage, good powertrain (18K mi so far) no issues and acts like new. see full Nissan Altima review

2013 4dr Sedan 182-horsepower 2.5L I4
CVT FWD
Nissan has a positive history with CVTs and this is the first one I've ever owned. I drove an older model Altima with CVT and I was really surprised by the speed, agility and mileage. The new model improves on the older model in many ways, it takes a little getting used to w/o the gear changing you are used to with traditional transmissions but that's where the difference ends for me. I came from a Turbo charged VW and I like the smoothness and basically big sell for a parent/road warrior car. see full Nissan Altima review
2013 4dr Sedan 182-horsepower 2.5L I4
CVT FWD
The 2.5 has enough power to pass yet the milage to get 38+ MPG on the highway. City MPG is not as good as expected, i get 25-28. see full Nissan Altima review
2013 4dr Sedan 182-horsepower 2.5L I4
CVT FWD
The CVT is a little tough to get used to, but kind of like learning to drive a manual smoothly (well, much easier), it rewards you when you adapt to its methods. Performance is quite good even when I had a full load of adult men, a/c cranked and some luggage. see full Nissan Altima review

2014 4dr Sedan 182-horsepower 2.5L I4
CVT FWD
The CVT takes a lot of getting used to. The CVT is too eager to reduce engine rpm after the engine rpm is increased above 3000 rpm. I will need to learn how to adjust my foot pressure on the accelerator pedal to avoid this. I'm hoping this won't be too difficult. see full Nissan Altima review
