Wanted a fun to drive sporty vehicle, yet needed good interior space since I have two teenage girls. Bounced between cars & CUV's. Found the Tiguan & was sold. Love the size, the spunk, acceleration, AND fuel economy. Wasn't sure about the leatherette seats, but after 4 months have come to like them. Averaging about 24mpg w/ mostly city driving. Pure freeway at 75 mpg yields close to 30mpg in San Diego. UPDATE: Ending up selling this vehicle since at 50k miles I started to have serious problems like leaking gaskets, a failed water pump, and carbon buildup which hurt performance. Also two ignition coils failed (ugh). Luckily it was all under warranty. Otherwise the repairs would have been ~$5,000 total (lots of labor). Ouch! VW gave me a $150 Visa gift card for the hassles incurred w/ all the repairs. see full Volkswagen Tiguan review |

I have a pair of 2.0T engines, in the Tig and in a 2009 GTI. One is very powerful, and one is extremely powerful. 'Nuff said. Funny how dofferent the gearing is-- the GTI is high-strung, never dropping below 2,400 rpm at cruising speeds, even in sixth. The Tiguan plays it lazy, preferring diesel-like engine speeds. Some owners gripe about this, but it's easy to kick down to lower gears, especially in S mode. It's really hard to come up with a reason to ever need more hp, more displacement or more cylinders than the 2.0T offers. see full Volkswagen Tiguan review |

Performance is fine but the transmission calibration is pretty bad. The vehicle is overgeared and wants to find a tall gear to quickly. This necessitates frequent gear changing and torque converter unlocking to accommodate what is basically a flat road. Combination of six speeds with a loose torque converter provides the equivalent of 12 speed choices. Grade sensing software is abominable. Could be a lot nicer with tighter torque converter and numerically higher final drive ratio. Fortunately has a good Aisin transmission that hopefully can take all of this monkey business. see full Volkswagen Tiguan review |

Very good. Driving in the mountains, I like the high torque at only 1700 RPM which makes the engine feel like a bigger engine. New transmission is smoother accelerating than last years model. Turbo lag takes a little adjusting to but still lots of fun. see full Volkswagen Tiguan review |

The 6 speed triptronic paired with the 2.0L TSI engine is great. Smooth power delivery, pulls very well from 2,000rpm all the way to redline. Took a few weeks for the transmission to stop shifting so early in to 6th at low speed but the computer seemed to have figured it out. see full Volkswagen Tiguan review |

Poor transmission calibration makes it necessary for me to manually shift the transmission to avoid annoying up/down shifts. see full Volkswagen Tiguan review |
