2009 | 4dr Sedan 175-horsepower 2.4L I4 5-speed shiftable automatic FWD |
Overall the 2009 I4 motor with the 5 speed auto is a perfect match for the car. Plenty of acceleration without being over powered. Gear spacing in the transmission is perfect. Only complaint about the powertrain is Hyundai's choice of downshifting 2 gears while cruise control is enabled. Even on the gentlest of inclines, when the car's speed starts slowing down, the computer downshifts from 5th to 3rd gear and engine RPM's surges from 1800rpm to 3000rpm. Very, very annoying. I communicated my dis-satisfaction to Hyundai corporate headquarters, their response was to take to the dealer to be FIXED. Dealership's response was a little more logical, the cars computer programming is set in stone and isn't going to be changed except for any safety issues. see full Hyundai Sonata review |
2009 | 4dr Sedan 249-horsepower 3.3L V6 5-speed shiftable automatic FWD |

2009 | 4dr Sedan 175-horsepower 2.4L I4 5-speed manual FWD |
175 hp is not enough. This is a heavy car with all the amenities in the GLS. Stereo, plush seats, heavy dash, stability control, heavier steel panels tolls in weight but excellent manual stick when driving on ice sheets or tough snow, light snow a breeze. see full Hyundai Sonata review |

OEM tires had to be replaced at 8,500 miles due to improper toe-in from factory that was not caught by dealer PDI or me. My 2008 Kia Optima had same problem. Machens Hyundai aligned car under warranty, but offered nothing regarding premature tire replacement. Too bad, this caused my wife's car purchase to be a Ford. see full Hyundai Sonata review |
