According to EPA, it can get up to 40 mpg. On our first calculation, we did about 32.8 mpg in mixed highway/city driving. Exactly what I was looking for. see full Toyota Corolla review

2006 4dr Sedan 126-horsepower 1.8L I4

Best car I have ever owned for fuel economy. I routinely average over 40 mpg. Highest was 48.9 mpg. I buy 89 octane fuel which delivers an added 10% mpg over regular 87 octane. BYW, Ethanol blends lower my mpg by 10% too. see full Toyota Corolla review
2006 4dr Sedan 126-horsepower 1.8L I4

Excellent fuel economy.......generally below 7.5 l/100kms....with really good trips in the 5 l/100km range. Fuel consumption varies with tires however. see full Toyota Corolla review

2006 Toyota Corolla Real Gas Mileage: Cons
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2007 4dr Sedan 126-horsepower 1.8L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
This car gets 25 City, 35 Highway. It looks like it should be able to do better, but it does not. The 3-speed Automatic with Overdrive (4-speed in reality) is dated and is only okay with the engine's performance. The engine itself, the 1ZZFE, has very few flaws, but is the final evolution of a 90's engine design, that gets okay horsepower, but goes through gas more than it should. And when they get older, they do go through more gas than they should. In addition, the engine can't handle E10 in cold weather (regular gasoline with "up to" 10 percent ethanol) without problems, requiring you to spend more on "REC" fuel, which is non-ethanol pure gasoline. On top of that, the drive by wire throttle has a noticeable delay between the hair trigger throttle and the engine surging forward, making smooth starts with the automatic difficult. see full Toyota Corolla review
2005 4dr Sedan 170-horsepower 1.8L I4
6-speed manual FWD
The gearing which keeps the engine in its power band keeps it at 4k RPM on the highway (I go fast). 30MPG on premium fuel is not justified by the modest increase in power. see full Toyota Corolla review
