TrueDelta Reviews the Reliability And Durability of the Honda Odyssey

Honda Odyssey Reliability And Durability: Pros
YearComment
2014 Both the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna have been reliable recently, aside from the 2011 models (the first year of the current design in both cases). As minivans age, the power sliding doors tend to be a common problem area. A few years ago, 1999-2003 Odysseys suffered from unusually common transmission failures, but the four-speed automatic transmission in question is no longer offered. Instead, for 2014 a six-speed automatic is standard on all trim levels. full 2014 Honda Odyssey review

Honda Odyssey Reliability And Durability: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2013 4dr Minivan, ext. 247-horsepower 3.5L V6 w/DoD
6-speed automatic FWD
Aside from the brakes, it's not too bad. Our shocks started leaking at 130,xxx miles. The passenger sliding door would jam at times but after our tech lubricated the sliders, everything appears to be fine now. The hydraulic belt tensioner started to fail prematurely, they're suppose to last 120k, our started making noises and was replaced at 80k. full 2013 Honda Odyssey review
2011 4dr Minivan, ext. 247-horsepower 3.5L V6 w/DoD

Besides some transmission snafus in the past, most people I know with Odysseys have virtually no problems. full 2011 Honda Odyssey review

2013 4dr Minivan, ext. 247-horsepower 3.5L V6 w/DoD

I cannot compain enough about the brakes. The brakes on our 2013 Odyssey Touring is the absolute worse part about this otherwise terrific van. Brake job (machine rotors or replace rotors) every 7,500 miles is rediculous and expensive! full 2013 Honda Odyssey review
2011 4dr Minivan, ext. 247-horsepower 3.5L V6 w/DoD
5-speed automatic FWD
May not be as good as the Sienna, but it will still be a great inexpensive van for many years. full 2011 Honda Odyssey review

Automatic transmission problems, trim falling off, radio shuts off each time battery runs down and requires a trip to dealer to reset, fuel filler door stops working which makes entire electric powered door not open on one side of vehicle. full 2003 Honda Odyssey review
2003 4dr Minivan, ext. 240-horsepower 3.5L V6
5-speed automatic FWD
Lots of reports of transmission problems on earlier models, but I think by 2003, they had it sorted. Power doors and rear windows are very expensive to repair when (not if!) they break. full 2003 Honda Odyssey review
2002 4dr Minivan, ext. 240-horsepower 3.5L V6

Transmission failed quite early even with changing transmission fluid every 10,000 miles. Not durable. Rattles, Squeaks, Hardware breaks, doors stick. Supposed to use only Honda brand transmission fluid, brake fluid, antifreeze. Next? Honda Air. full 2002 Honda Odyssey review
