We purchased this car with about 100k miles already on it. The car served us well for about a year (40,000 miles). We averaged 31MPG combined w/o the AC on and about 28 with the AC on. We like the car but it had a lot of high pitched noises at all speeds. On 7/4/13 the car suddenly lost all drivetrain power. It was diagnosed with a failed hybrid water pump. A warning should have come on to pull over but did not. By the time the computer shut down the vehicle, it was too late. Ford said a new transaxle is in order at a cost of over $12,000 (includes installation). Think long and hard before you buy into the theory that a hybrid will save you money. full 2008 Ford Escape review |

The 2.3L 4CYL engine is agreat little engine, and when teamed with the manual 5spd, provides a good level of fun and performance. As expected I have not returned to the dealer for anything since new.32000 miles. full 2006 Ford Escape review |

Looking for a small SUV to replace my 1990 Toyota PU. Do not buy cars often. Consumer report rated Ford Escape high on reliability. Rented this vehicle and drove from Reno to Lake Tahoe. Enjoyed the ride. Bought used only 2 yrs old, 17k, 1/2 off MSRP. full 2006 Ford Escape review |

Over the last 2 years I've put over $2,000 in this thing. One major repair was some real BS - an IDLER puller BRACKET should not BREAK OFF the timing cover, yet here I was, stranded and with no help from Ford AT ALL, and $1200 later I was back on the road. Now it's got some BS fuel filler that needs to be repalced due to the "capless" filler neck. I'm selling or trading this heap ASAP. full 2010 Ford Escape review |

A bit jerking into gear on first gear already as new. Not sure how long the transmission can last. Ford Explorer was one of the MOST complainted cars in history. Not sure how well the Escape will stand up. full 2009 Ford Escape review |

The 2005 Ford Escape has been anything but reliable. Every couple 3 months this pile has fed me some more problems that hurt the wallet and leave me scrounging for a credit card to get buy until the next disaster. Do Not Buy This 2005 Curse! full 2005 Ford Escape review |
